Luxation Of The Patella
What the heck is a patella? Or a luxation, for that matter? I have never heard of either of those things, but apparently, that is what's wrong with my leg.
I have a luxation of the patella on my right rear leg. Dr. Bruhn (who I think just happens to be sweet on me) told my Daddy that in a human it would be like having a dislocated kneecap, except it keeps snapping in and out of place. I might need surgery, but Dr. Bruhn said it could get better on it's own, so we should wait a couple weeks and then have it re-checked. Personally, I think he just wants to see me again.
So in the meantime, I have some anti-inflammatory pills to take, and I'm not supposed to run around at all for the next two weeks. Duke is pissed. He thinks I'm doing it on purpose just to torture him and deprive him of his playtime. I wish that were the case, but unfortunately I'm under Doctors orders to be pretty much confined to the couch for a while. I just hope I don't have to have surgery. I've had it before, and it is no fun at all. So if Dr. Bruhn says I need to rest, then that's what I'm going to do. If you need me, I'll be laying in the recliner with Mommy.

Oh Gidget. I hope it gets better on it's own and you don't need to have surgery. Tell Duke he will just have to suck it up and deal with the fact that you can't play right now.

Oh, I'm sorry Gidget. Both of Nappy's patellas do that and one of Maggie's is bad also. One time when Nappy was little his snapped out but it got better within a week and has been fine since then. Our vet told us that luxating patellas is very common in pugs. We are keeping our fingers crossed for you.
I'm sorry you're having some knee issues, Gidgey. Take it easy so you'll get better, ok?
Puggy kisses

Hi Gidgey...
I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. My sister Sophia has that problem, but luckily it was all better on it's own. Make sure you are treated like a princess as you recover...all the treats and toys you desire!
Lots of Licks!!! Ruby
Gidgey....I hope you feel better soon! Resist the urge to jump on the couch....remember, humans were made for lifting pugs and placing them on soft surfaces that they couldn't normally reach. Take advantage!!
Hey Gidget,
I am glad that it is nothing too serious and I hope that it does not need surgery. We're sure you'll be just fine because I think snuggle time can cure any puggy ill.

Hey Giget...Our Sugar has that, too. She's had it all her life and the doc said if it got too bad she might need surgery but it does not slow her down and doesn't seem to be getting worse. Hopefully yours will not be too bad.
I'm sending out some boxer healing vibes so you won't have to have surgery! Enjoy your resting!
So sorry to hear about the news, but I hope it gets better without surgery. Love you!

Thanks for all the kind words and advice everybody. I've been taking it easy, and my leg does seem to be doing better. I'm starting to think that surgery will not be necessary, but I still have my paws crossed!
And Rickey, we did find that article slightly humorous, but we do think that Lou Brock was a much better all-around ballplayer than you.

Oh Gidget! I hope it gets better without surgery because I had double luxating patella surgery when I was one in Seattle and let me tell ya, it aint fun! Fortunately, there are specialist for everything and we used Dr. Engen in Kirkland(his bedside manner wasn't the greatest). However, it has been 6 years and my knees haven't had any problems since the surgery. If you want any specifics, just email me weagelwatson@yahoo.com. Get well soon!!!!
Poor Gidget, we hope you are feeling better. Sending healing thoughts your way. xoxoPugsley, Buster and Cricket.
